For a relative small city (800.000 inhabitants) Amsterdam has am extensive gay nightlife, with lots of gay bars, clubs and parties. Most well known are the main gay street Reguliersdwarsstraat, with the main gay bars. The Warmoesstraat with cruise clubs and bars, and the leathershops. The most popular party is Rapido, taking place 4 times a year in an old Church.

Gay pride is the biggest local event in Amsterdam. The highlight is the parade, which is on boats through the main canal. It has almost half a million spectators watching from the side. The rest of the weekend is filled with various culture events, massive street parties and many indoor gay parties.
Another popular event is Queensday, which is a celebration for the (royal) Queen of The Netherlands. There is an outside free market in the whole center, with many music and dance stages. In the gay streets always lots of activities and large gay dance parties like Rapido take place on the days surrounding Queensday.
Amsterdam is a very open minded and gay friendly city. There are some gay hotels but you can take any nice hotel you like in the center.
